DESCRIPTION
The Sant Roc Hermitage of Benassal, is a building located on the top of a hill, at 968 meters of altitude, which dominates a beautiful panorama in which the town’s town center stands out. It is a simple construction, with a single nave, to which other rooms were later added, to shelter the hermit. Since its construction, in the second half of the 16th century, it has suffered the vicissitudes of history, being seriously damaged in the War of Succession and in the Civil War. All the artistic heritage was despoiled or destroyed and the building began to suffer serious pathologies, associated with foundation problems, among others. Its normal use came to constitute a risk for the population, making it essential to undertake a comprehensive restoration.
At the end of the last century, given the seriousness of the pathologies, the Benassal City Council commissioned the restoration of AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP, in order to solve the problems associated with the foundation, confer structural security to all intermediate and roof slabs and restore internally and externally all the surfaces.
The hermitage, used every year by the residents who visit it on the day of the saint, is a protected element with the category of Local Relevance Property.
