Exhibition A MAGICAL LIBRARY

DESCRIPTION

Momentary architecture.

A commission was received to organize a unique book exhibition, which was baptized as the “Magical Library” and which was to be held inside the Ex-Collegiate of Santa María la Mayor, in Rubielos de Mora (Teruel), an Herrerian style building that was finalized at the beginning of the 17th century. This initiative would allow the exhibition of ancient and incunabula books of great value and uniqueness because of the topic covered, which was the slow transition from obscurantism in the appreciation of many phenomena, to a progressively more erudite and scientific vision.

The determining factors of the commission were the scarce availability of resources and the location, which was the space of the church choir.

The proposal allowed creating an absolutely enveloping and light-opaque (black) space, which was flooded with images (rotating visuals) and sound (selected classical music), achieving a truly evocative atmosphere, which enveloped visitors in the magic of other times. These sensations were discovered when accessing the exhibition space.

All this was achieved by placing a kind of great black “tent”, suspended from the roof of the church, forming a totally closed space that seemed to float from the key. The solution was executed with a very low budget and the result was highly valued, both by the organizers of the exhibition and the visitors, as well as by the authorities and the press.
