DESCRIPTION
The municipality of Torrent is located in the L’Horta Sud region, just 9 km from the city of Valencia. It limits the N with the municipal terms of Chiva, Alaquás and Aldaia; to the E with Picanya and Catarroja; to the W with Godelleta and Turís; and to the S with Monserrat, Picassent and Alcácer. In total there are 69.37 km² of municipal area that are characterized by having an elongated morphology from East to West. The municipality is located in in the NE corner of the term, and in turn, the historical or foundational nucleus is located to the north of the city.
Much of this municipal term is a plain, but towards the west and south it becomes more mountainous in the form of small hills to the Sierra Perenxisa massif, which stands out greatly in the landscape. The other two mountainous foothills of the term are the Vedat and the Cerro de Monredondo. It is in these mountainous spaces where the first cultures that are documented in Torrent are developed, towns of bronze and Iberian that attest to an early occupation of the territory in this area. As for the plain part, two areas are distinguished; a first zone of kitchen garden, located to the East of the town and next to the Ravine, and another one of dry land towards the South and the West of the term.
In terms of heritage protection, social awareness has progressed considerably in recent years, and at this time there is great sensitivity to the need to preserve heritage, understood in a broad sense, that is, from the landscape vision to concrete protection. of natural or constructed elements, including those that are part of democratic memory. Proof of this is the set of rules that are cited below and that, to a greater or lesser extent, always affect this need and, above all, the incorporation in article 42 of the L.O.T.U.P. of this holistic vision. For the public administration, it is also an obligation, a strategic and priority objective, which forces it to establish specific intervention policies on heritage. With this perspective, the present Catalog can be interpreted, as an expression of the social commitment of the city council and of the will to contribute to preserve, for future generations, those elements that, singularly or together, constitute the basis and origin of what is Currently the locality object of study and protection.
The Catalogue of Protections of Torrent is a management instrument that consists of three sections (Natural, Landscape and Cultural, including the democratic memory) and that studies, analyzes and protects all the elements of interest to the municipality in these three fields. It has been the result of work carried out for almost ten years and includes 395 cultural heritage files, including 7 Assets of Cultural Interest and 93 Assets of Local Relevance; 27 natural heritage tokens; 17 landscape heritage tokens and 10 Democratic Memory tokens, including 6 Locally Relevant Assets.
