The City Council of Enguera (Valencia) has commissioned AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP to draft the Master Plan and the Detailed Planning Plan of the municipality, including all the documents linked to these instruments.
Enguera is a municipality located in the foothills of a mountain range, which occupies an area of 241 km², a large part of which is for forestry use. In the municipal area is the Sierra de Enguera Community Site of Interest, which occupies the southern half of the municipal area. On the other hand, at the northwestern end is the limit of the Muela de Cortés y Caroche SCI. The Special Protection Area for Birds – SPA extends mainly in the northern half of the municipality. Several Municipal Natural Sites, such as the Barranco de la Hoz, located east of Navalón de Abajo, the Municipal Natural Site of the Carrasca and El Gatillo ravines or the Municipal Natural Site of Umbría de la Plana, located to the southeast of the center urban area of Enguera, make up a very rich and diverse landscape. A river corridor delimited by the Territorial Action Plan of the Central Regions of the Valencian Community, following the Mínguez River and the Rambla del Riajuelo with the blue route, will connect the town and the rest of the Canal. Finally, the municipal area presents the Barranco de la Rosa microreserves and the Chorrillo Microreserve.
The natural and landscape wealth of Enguera is joined by a first-class cultural heritage, with elements such as the Enguera castle, the church of San Miguel Arcángel, the convent of Discalced Carmelites of San José and Santa Ana, several hermitages and various buildings of civil architecture distributed in the main nucleus and in various districts, which makes the municipality a place full of incentives.
The population of Enguera has been slowly decreasing over the last century, from 5,825 inhabitants in 1920 to 4,781 in 2023, evidencing a much stronger resistance to population exodus than that of other towns of similar size in the Valencian Community. In this context, the new general plan can become an effective tool at the service of the revitalization of the local economy, while at the same time it will allow for further protection and safeguarding of the great heritage wealth of the municipality. All of this represents a challenge of enormous interest for the AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP team and its collaborators.
