On the occasion of the presentation of the monographic issue of the magazine “Ciudad y Territorio-Estudios Territoriales”, published by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA), dedicated to addressing “Urban planning in Spain: crisis and future challenges”, a day was held in the Ministry’s assembly hall that brought together the different authors who have participated in this issue of the magazine. In addition to the speakers and the director and former general director of the General Director of Urban Agenda, people from the field of urban planning and territorial planning from all over Spain attended the event. Throughout the morning, the different authors explained the most relevant aspects of their contribution to this issue of the magazine, providing different and complementary visions that made the event a forum of great interest.
At the table dedicated to addressing “THE PROBLEM OF URBAN PLANNING IN SMALL MUNICIPALITIES”, under the moderation of the professor and coordinator of the Department of Urban Planning and Territorial Planning of the ETSAM-UPM, Isabel González García, Eduardo de Santiago Rodríguez presented his presentations (from MITMA) and Víctor García Gil (from AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP). The opportunity to bring the voice of small municipalities to a debate table like this was taken advantage of by the latter, representing AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP and also many small town councils, to convey the concerns, difficulties and challenges of this part of the “emptied Spain”, given the need to provide itself with a planning instrument. It served to share different “inspiring” elements that have been put into practice in the Valencian Community promoted by the Autonomous Administration, either in the form of digital tools or legislative changes, which may be useful for other territories in Spain faced with the same problem. of depopulation and the way to approach planning in this type of areas.
