The City Council of Cofrentes (Valencia) has approved the submission to public exhibition and consultations of the Plan for the Protection of the castle, after passing the phase of strategic environmental and territorial evaluation. With this decision, a new milestone is marked in the processing of the file, which for 45 business days may be consulted by departments of the Administration, companies and individuals. The approval of the Special Plan for the Protection of an element considered to be of Cultural Interest, such as Cofrentes Castle, is mandatory according to national and regional heritage protection legislation. It is also an opportunity to lay the foundations for a way of intervening on inherited heritage and, in this case, on its urban environment, in order to improve the environmental quality of the managed area. In recent years public and private works have been carried out on sensitive cornices with great visual impact, near the castle of Cofrentes, which have disturbed the town’s urban façade, which justifies the adoption of measures to correct and reduce this type of impact.
