PROVISIONAL APPROVAL OF THE CATALOGUE OF PROTECTIONS OF CORTES DE ARENOSO

The City Council of Cortes de Arenoso (Castellón) has provisionally approved the new Cultural Section of the Catalog of Protections and has sent it to the Territorial Urban Planning Commission for final approval. This planning instrument has been prepared thanks to a grant from the Department of Culture of the Valencian Government, who has been promoting the drafting of this type of document for years. The new Cultural Section collects, in a municipality of a large area and with an outstanding variety of examples of vernacular popular architecture, a total of 335 protected paleontological, archaeological, ethnological and architectural elements.

The new catalogue, drawn up by AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP, places Cortes de Arenoso among the municipalities with the largest number of protected elements and has been drawn up trying to reconcile the use of assets with their protection, without seeking inflexible positions and from the conviction that the document can serve as an educational tool to promote greater awareness of the need to protect heritage, without forgetting that the town suffers, like all of the region, a marked problem of depopulation.
