The Municipality of Marines (Valencia) has agreed to submit to public information and consultation the General Structural Plan and the Detailed Planning Plan drawn up by AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP. With this agreement, the urban processing of the instruments that will establish the territorial and urban development model of the municipality for the coming decades continues. The draft plan is the result of several years of work between different sectoral administrations, the city council itself, the Valencia Provincial Council -which subsidizes the drafting and supervises the plan- and the drafting team. The plan seeks to reconcile all local requirements and aspirations.
The town of Marines Nuevo, which turned 50 in 2017, is the result of the design of the Institute for Agrarian Reform and Development (formerly INC) and presents an exemplary arrangement, which the new plan consecrates and continues to promote, without introducing variations. This original design confers a very high environmental quality on urban land and is endorsed by the trajectory of the architects who worked for the aforementioned public institutes. Along with the newly created nucleus, in the municipal area, the original enclave, known as Marines Viejo, located in the Sierra Calderona, an enclave of great beauty, has been maintained and recovered. This nucleus, in turn, presents a very unique arrangement that has been maintained, with minor alterations throughout the centuries.
Along with the urban centers for residential use, the town has a location for industrial use that offers interesting development possibilities and that the new plan orders and consolidates, to the extent possible. This productive land constitutes a driving element of local and regional economic activity, of special importance for Marines.
Finally, the other large territorial element located in the municipal term is the General Almirante Military Base, which occupies an area of almost 16 million square meters, which represents 45% of the municipal term. This base is the headquarters of the Transmission Regiment No. 21, the Lusitania Light Armored Cavalry Regiment number 8 (RCLAC «LUSITANIA» 8) and the Light Armored Cavalry Group “MILAN” XVI, among other units.
