The plenary session of the City Council of Torrent (Valencia) has agreed on the provisional approval of the Catalog of Protections and its referral to he environmental assessment service, so that it can issue the Strategic Environmental and Territorial Declaration. In this way, the ordinary processing of a file that has required several years of effort continues, due to the complexity of the studied heritage and the different regulatory changes that have affected the legal framework that regulates the drafting and processing of Catalogs in the Valencian Community.
The Torrent Protection Catalogue, drawn up in close collaboration with the technical and legal team of the town hall, has the four sections established by current legislation: natural, landscape, cultural and democratic memory. Of these four sections, the Cultural Section stands out, which includes 576 protected elements, distributed in 402 files. Of these elements, 7 are Assets of Cultural Interest, 102 are Assets of Local Relevance and 467 are Listed Assets. During the period of public exposure and consultation, 33 allegations were presented, of which 14 were upheld, 9 partially upheld and 10 rejected.
Due to the heterogeneous nature of the assessed heritage, the protection of architectural elements has not been limited to buildings of great antiquity, but rather includes a notable number of samples of modern and contemporary architecture, mainly from the first third of the 20th century, although there are also older works. current. This perspective corresponds to a living city, where good examples of recent architecture can be found and that continues to generate heritage.
