The City Council of Cortes de Arenoso (Castellón) has begun processing a new Cultural Heritage Section of the Catalogue of Protections. The works were entrusted to AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP, whose urban planning director has led a team in which they have had the collaboration of doctors Amparo Barrachina Ibáñez and María Teresa Suñer Fuster, among other professionals. The preparation of this document arises two decades after the approval of the Master Plan of Cortes de Arenoso, also drawn up by AUG-ARQUITECTOS, SLP, at a time when the town faces the serious problem of depopulation of the rural environment, very accused in the region.
The municipal term of Cortes de Arenoso treasures an interesting paleontological, archaeological, ethnological and architectural heritage, whose study and evaluation have required a holistic vision and an exhaustive research and field work. The enormous dispersion of inhabited nuclei, since the Middle Ages, has resulted in the existence of three urban centers and almost seventy farmhouses, most of them abandoned. Inventory, protect and value the heritage wealth of the municipality, can be decisive for the economic future of the town. Its council, with the help of the Directorate General for Culture and Heritage, has proposed to make heritage a basic pillar of its identity and its future.
The drafting of the Cultural Heritage Section of the Catalogue of Protections has been subsidized by the General Directorate of Culture and Heritage of the Generalitat Valenciana.
